WONE Global's guide to Qatar records this change under tax and reporting. Each statement below has been checked against the source it links to.
Excise tax applies at 100% to tobacco products, energy drinks and special purpose goods, and from 6 July 2026 sweetened drinks are taxed by sugar content at QAR 0.77 per litre (5 to 7.99 g per 100 ml) or QAR 1.06 per litre (8 g or more per 100 ml).
The 100% rate is charged on the higher of the standard price or the retail selling price before tax. Drinks with less than 5 g of sugar per 100 ml, and drinks with only artificial sweeteners, are exempt.
