Professor Dr. Vahit Biçak is a distinguished lawyer and academician with expertise in both common and civil law traditions. He graduated from the Faculty of Law, Ankara University in 1989 and earned his PhD from the University of Nottingham, UK, in 1996, with a thesis on the admissibility of improperly obtained evidence by the police. He became an assistant professor in 1999, associate professor in 2002, and full professor in 2008.
Fluent in Turkish and English, Dr. Biçak is a lawyer, educator, trainer, mediator, arbitrator, and consultant. His specialization spans comparative law, evidence law, international and domestic criminal law, and human rights law. He has been a visiting scholar at leading institutions worldwide, including City University of New York, Fordham Law School, University of Lyon III (France), Moribor University (Slovenia), Police College of Hungary, and Police College of the Czech Republic.
In Turkey, he has taught at prestigious universities such as Bilkent, Hacettepe, Gazi, Başkent, Atılım, HBV, and the Police Academy. He has served in significant human rights roles, including President of the Prime Ministry Human Rights Committee (2003–2005), member of the Human Rights Consultative Committee, and participant in the Reform Monitoring Group alongside high-level government ministers.
His international contributions include work at the European Court of Human Rights in Strasbourg and membership in the European Council Police Ethics Committee of Experts. He is also a regular speaker and trainer at global seminars and competitions, including the ICC International Mediation Competition in Paris.
Dr. Biçak has authored numerous books and scholarly articles in Turkish and English, focusing on human rights, criminal procedure, constitutional law, and evidence law. He has also designed and managed over a dozen international projects.
