Award-winning advocate, arbitrator, and legislative drafter with expertise in maritime, fintech, corporate law, and gender equality. Managing Partner at Michoma & Co Advocates and CEO of multiple initiatives advancing smart cities and socio-economic development in Africa.
Beth Michoma is an Advocate, Arbitrator, Legislative Drafter, Author, and former Council Member and Chairperson of the Gender Committee of the Law Society of Kenya. She is the Managing Partner of Michoma & Co Advocates and the Chief Executive Officer of Galen Smart Cities, Maritime Hub Africa, and Facets of Africa.
She serves as a Member of the Financial Centre Tribunal and the Multi-Sectoral Working Group on the Realization of the Two-Thirds Gender Principle.
Beth was named the 2021 Honouree of the International Bar Association, Outstanding International Woman Lawyer of the Year Award in honour of AnneMarie Hutchinson. She also serves as the African Liaison for the Poverty and Social Development Committee of the International Bar Association.
She holds an LL.M with Merit from Queen Mary University of London, specializing in Maritime, Financial Services (FinTech), and Commercial & Corporate Law, and an LL.B (Hons.) from the University of London. She has also completed leadership programs at the Kenya School of Government, certificates from Università Bocconi, Universiteit Leiden, the World Bank, and the Commonwealth Education Trust, including qualifications in Financing Infrastructure, Teaching & Curriculum, Sustainable Mobility, Smart Cities, and International Arbitration.
Beth is an active member of the Law Society of Kenya, East Africa Law Society, International Bar Association, Commonwealth Lawyers Association, Chartered Institute of Arbitrators (UK), and the International Association for Legislation.
Her aspirations include promoting gender equality, developing inclusive fiscal and financial policies, advocating for women in maritime, improving the welfare of seafarers, positioning lawyers as change agents for socio-economic development, and promoting African art, culture, and smart city policies.
